Bill, remember that the "price" of crude oil(as well as transport fuels) is set in the interim by speculators trading on the various commodities exchanges. When the traders see a drop in consumption and a concurrent bulging of inventory, they start bidding down the futures contracts and that collapses the trading prices. A "herd effect" kicks in and you get these price swings. Ultimately, what you will end up with a a reduction in consumption in the margin, and the producers start elbowing each other to sell their product at the loss of the other guy. That then kicks the pricing structure downstairs, until one of the producers (or more) gives up and drops out. It is because of these activities at the margins that you see these large price swings in the market.
“Assimilation is a double-edged sword. Since starting my company I’m more vocal about having diversity, specifically black people, integrated into brands and conversations, primarily in regards to campaigns and products that are heavily geared toward the black community. For example, I think there is an influx of campaigns shot in primarily urban areas but there lacks the same diversity on the team. My question is, who can speak from that point of view authentically, or is this an aesthetic? It is imperative to use the talents of black people that are driving these conversations from their points of view to their community nationwide and globally.”—Sandrine Charles, founder, Sandrine Charles Consulting
Pity it’s not happening in PA. We like this state and want to stay near Pittsburgh, not move across the country in search of somewhere else that will support us. There are jobs here and we are close to family in NY and DC. I know that homesteading is about sacrifice sometimes, but moving away from the only family we have seems a bit much. I guess we’re stuck turning our postage-stamp lawn into a garden instead
The laser cutting cell operates day and night shifts plus lights-out during the summer months, totaling 18 to 20 hours per day, five days a week. For the remainder of the year, it runs a day shift and lights-out for 10 to 12 hours a day.
It isn’t just normal radiation, it is stimulated radiation. What sort of irresponsible morons would go around stimulating radiation? Isn’t normal radiation bad enough? There aren’t enough hats in the world to protect us all.
It’s encouraging to see the number of South African customers that make the time and effort to visit this exhibition and how many invest in equipment after visiting the show. It’s also encouraging to be part of and see the networking that takes place during the show, many of whom meet each other for the first time and then start business relationships even though they are competitors.
“Internships often involve unpaid work. But it doesn’t feel good to perpetuate a system that penalizes people who don’t come from money. I wish I could afford to put all of my interns on staff, so they wouldn’t have to work multiple jobs in order to fulfill their dreams.”—Solange Franklin, stylist
Hello, you used to write fantastic, but the last several posts have been kinda boring¡K I miss your tremendous writings. Past few posts are just a bit out of track! come on!
“I once worked at a major fashion magazine where, after two other black employees were hired, a comment was made that the whole magazine was turning black even though there were a total of four black women at the company. Black female employees were told to learn how to speak more white, and the topic of hair was constantly brought up. Senior staff would say things like, I could never do what you girls do and not wash my hair for months; that’s disgusting.’ I reported everything to management since I was so on edge, but they repeatedly told me that I was overly sensitive and made me feel like an angry black woman.”—Anonymous
“Look at the front row during Fashion Week. There are no black bloggers there. Like none. Why not? We need to start having some real talks about it.”—Claire Sulmers, influencer
One of the benefits of using standard (borosilicate) glass *is* that it absorbs IR light. The absorption at a given wavelength is equivalent to the black body emission at that wavelength (Kirchhoff’s law) – as the glass gets hot, it emits tons of IR. The longer wavelengths of IR are more effective in warming the surrounding area than the vis/nir/mwir that would escape with ALON or other IR transparent substrates.
