We love brands with experience, and premium German garden machinery maker Stihl has over 90 years of it. Wheeling out its top-spec cordless lawnmower, the RMA 448 TC, that expertise is abundantly clear. This large, 46cm cut mower simply exudes build quality. Everything fits together with slick precision, set-up and controls are crisp and free of any play, and the features list is extensive.
“Things would change if more prominent black actresses or actors would use black creatives. If my client goes to the Oscars and does the whole awards season, then so do I. My visibility as a stylist goes up and keeps up. In this industry, the people who have the power to change somebody’s life, change somebody’s career, they need to do that. They need to give those opportunities to people who need it.”—Law Roach, stylist
as PWalsh says, it’s not really possible without a sensing proxy. In theory (not claiming its easy nor relatively feasible) one could use the Zeeman effect. I know the Zeeman effect has been used to calculate magnetic fields near celestial objects. If a molecule can be identified with a pronounced Zeeman effect, it should be possible to envelope it in a planar cavity, constructed from a reflective (diffuse or alternatively retroreflective) plane on one side and a transparent plane on the other, such that the Zeeman effective medium can be imaged through the transparent plane. The disadvantage would be a lot of upfront feasibility research, and a lot of trial and error, the advantage would be that one could leverage the cheap high pixel densities in digital cameras, a million magnetic field sensors on a PCB would turn out expensive.
With minor tweaks, you can even have the electronics to charge le the battery when you are going down.
(And just because I am a pedantic ass: “20,000 mAh” is not a measure of energy. What’s wrong with saying it can deliver “10 watt-hours” (over 10 hours)? It’s correct and far more useful.)
“I have a brown girl who’s killing it. So I asked brands if they will partner with me to dress her. The answer: ‘Oh, no. Pass.’ An Oscar-nominated woman who is sample size isn’t right for the brand, but then I see them work with someone who has no career, no fashion profile. It’s bizarre.”—Jason Bolden, stylist
Of course, for a nail manufacturer like Mid-Continent, steel is everything. As a last-ditch effort, in June, Mid-Continent submitted a request to the Department of Commerce to be excluded from Trump’s tariffs. It’s not the only company to do so. Christine McDaniel, a senior research fellow at the Mercatus Center, at George Mason University, said the Commerce Department estimated that it would receive roughly forty-five hundred exclusion requests from companies that import steel; instead, it has been deluged with more than thirty-five thousand applications, from nearly eight hundred firms. (Companies file individual requests for different types of steel.)
