"The carbon arc discharge method, initially used for producing C60 fullerenes, is the most common and perhaps easiest way to produce CNTs, as it is rather simple. However, it is a technique that produces a complex mixture of components, and requires further purification – to separate the CNTs from the soot and the residual catalytic metals present in the crude product.
Moreover, BySort increases the speed of the entire unloading process. Firstly, the cut parts are unloaded and sorted. Subsequently, using a different route, the ByTrans unloads the skeleton. It ensures that the laser cutting system’s shuttle table is more quickly available for loading of the next sheet, which the ByTrans Cross brings from its own stock or from the connected warehouse.
I would suggest changing, in the second last paragraph: “radioactivity levels of NBN Co’s wireless towers” to “electromagnetic radiation levels from NBN Co’s wireless towers”.
How people believe this is beyond me, but given I deal with it on a daily basis – nothing surprises me anymore.
The other benefit is that machining is so fast, especially with the fiber laser, that it is a cost-effective way of taking weight out of components by incorporating numerous holes and slots. It would be too labor-intensive and therefore uneconomical to do manually.
“We used to outsource the shearing,” Fitch says. “Now, we do it all ourselves. We’re more automated than we used to be.”
That seems like it would make very fine fireplace/wood stove glass if it allows so much IR passthrough. You would get much better radiant heat I think. Am I correct in assuming that the oxynitride means that the aluminium atoms are no longer exposed in a way to be reactive to oxygen? IOW this stuff won’t oxidize? That was my first question when I saw the words “transparent aluminium”, which seems to be something of a misnomer, because aluminium normally oxidizes very rapidly, and nobody would want a window that tarnished quickly.

History tells us brands can come back from the brink of a company crisis, yet it takes serious and long-term communications, vision and commitment to get there
Methane has also been used as a carbon source. In particular it has been used to obtain ‘nanotube chips’ containing isolated SWNTs at controlled locations. High yields of SWNTs have been obtained by catalytic decomposition of an H2/CH4 mixture over well-dispersed metal particles (Co, Ni, Fe) on MgO at 1000°C. It has been reported that the synthesis of composite powders containing well-dispersed CNTs can be achieved by selective reduction in an H2/CH4 atmosphere of oxide solid solutions (between a non-reducible oxide such as Al2O3 or MgAl2O4 and one or more transition metal oxides). The reduction produces very small transition metal particles at a temperature of usually >800°C. The decomposition of CH4 over the freshly formed nanoparticles prevents their further growth, and thus results in a very high proportion of SWNTs and fewer MWNTs."
It’s a great idea for a competition! You put just som simple limit (like “your bike cannot weigh more than x” or possibly the bike+rider) and then you have a race. Image all the fun stuff that will come out of it. Competitions for/with engineers are always more fun.
So the Swiss got fed up with this road-hogging and road-jamming and decided to start building Tunnels. And these tunnels were not the old pick-axe and dynamite jobs, they – in classic Swiss fashion – were going to be done with Tunnel-Boring Machines, some gargantuan device with a rotor head with diamond-tipped cutting teeth and internal conveyors to carry out the slag, and even install concrete liner sections as they went. In any event, these machines ended up fully developed and are now quite mundane pieces of machinery, off-the-shelf, and hey if you want to go build yourself a tunnel of 27 feet diameter, pick up the phone and go order yourself one. And that was how that ultra-long tunnel from England all the way to France, under the English Channel, was built. They set up one boring machine at one end, and another at the other end, and let some laser guidance machine meet the sections up at the middle.
